Analytical renormalization group approach to competing orders at charge neutrality in twisted bilayer graphene

چکیده

We investigate twisted bilayer graphene near charge neutrality using a generalized Bistritzer-MacDonald continuum model, accounting for corrugation effects. The Fermi velocity vanishes particular twist angles properly reproducing the physics of celebrated magic angles. Using group representation theory, we identify all contact interaction potentials compatible with symmetries model. This enables us to two classes quartic interactions leading either opening gap or nematic ordering. then implement renormalization analysis study competition between these angle approaching first value. combined theory-renormalization reveals that proximity favors occurrence layer-polarized, gapped state spatial modulation interlayer correlations, which call insulator.

Giant magnetodrag in graphene at charge neutrality.

We report experimental data and theoretical analysis of Coulomb drag between two closely positioned graphene monolayers in a weak magnetic field. Close enough to the neutrality point, the coexistence of electrons and holes in each layer leads to a dramatic increase of the drag resistivity. Away from charge neutrality, we observe nonzero Hall drag. The observed phenomena are explained by decoupl...

Evidence for a spin phase transition at charge neutrality in bilayer graphene

The quantum spin Hall effect is characterized by spin-polarized counter-propagating edge states1–3. It has been predicted that this edge state configuration could occur in graphene when spin-split electronand hole-like Landau levels are forced to cross at the edge of the sample4–6. In particular, a quantumspin-Hall analogue has been predicted in bilayer graphene with a Landau level filling fact...

Superlensing with twisted bilayer graphene

The charge susceptibility of twisted bilayer graphene is investigated in the Dirac cone, respectively, randomphase approximation. For small enough twist angles θ ≲ 2° , we find genuine interband plasmons, i.e., collective excitonic modes that exist in the undoped material with an almost constant energy dispersion. In this regime, the loss function can be described as a Fano resonance, and we ar...

Energy-driven drag at charge neutrality in graphene.

Coulomb coupling in graphene heterostructures results in vertical energy transfer between electrons in proximal layers. We show that, in the presence of correlated density inhomogeneity in the layers, vertical energy transfer has a strong impact on lateral charge transport. In particular, for Coulomb drag, its contribution dominates over conventional momentum drag near zero doping. The dependen...
